Sometimes a little is just enough. We've been discussing how turquoise is the hot decorating color for 2010. In this final post on the subject I'd like to introduce a wonderful collage that offers just a hint of turquoise. "Purple Collage" measures 14" wide x 33" long and can be displayed framed or unframed. it is a delicious mix of 3-D butterflies, beads, and tribal warrior among a wandering vine. It is a visual delight. I hope you have enjoyed this turquoise journey. Happy designing!

Announcing: Framed and Matted Fiber Art
Have a wonderful day enjoying good food and conversation with family and friends!
Happy Thanksgiving!
The ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people. --Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924), 28th President of the United States
You asked for matted and framed works from this studio to include in you projects where just a small touch of artwork is needed. I listened. Right after Thanksgiving, I will release a series I'm sure will excite you. Thank you for your patience. Peace, Bailey

Okay, You've been hearing about my constructed works inspired by a paper arts class (see 11/9/09 post). Here is the Envelope I mentioned.
This piece uses actual postage stamps that are combined with a stable base to create a fabric. Whats an envelope without a letter? Inside is a flower with inspriational meesages found on Yogi tea bags.
The Envelope Please!
On monday, I told you how I was inspired by a paper art class. This is the lidded Dragon Fly Bowl I mentioned.
Black and white graphic print. Hand beaded atennae. Custom designed fiber fringe around lid edge. Inside is an array of 3-D dragon flies in thread lace, metalic silver embossing, and angelina fibers.

I enjoyed a semester worth of inspiration this fall. My teenaged son was taking a paper art class at his high school. They made a delicious array of books, which I got to see when I was invited to visit by his teacher. It was the end of the semester and their final exam projects were displayed in the back of the room. So many sizes, shapes, colors and techniques were presented. It was so much fun to examine each one to figure out how it opened. What a joy to carefully turn the pages and read each one. It inspired me to try my hand at some books. (As you know, my primary medium is fabric.) I enjoyed the process so much; I decided to translate the paper concepts into fabric. This lead to a stamp covered fabric envelope complete with an inspirational quilted work inside, a hexagon lidded bowl filled with beaded three-dimensional dragonflies, and a series of pyramidal amulet holders. It was so much fun to explore these new areas/processes. I look forward to my next adventure.

Interview about my work and process
This large piece tells of one's ability to soar because they know who they are, who their ascestors are, and have a home base. Contains a mirror, brass bells, hand beading, vintage butttons and lace, and ceramic ring. When I added a painted hand print, a heart appeared in the palm.

I have such fun making these little trees. I embroider them on my sewing machine free-hand without a pattern. I mat and frame them or add them to larger wall pieces.

I just finished this beautiful Spirit doll named “Fuchsia”. She is holding a mandala that glows with positive energy. The mandala was created with aqua and purple lame’ and embellished with faceted crystals. She serves as a strength talisman as I go through a personal medical crisis. It would be extremely meaningful to me if everyone who sees this posting would send positive energy to me, especially on June 11, 2009 and the week following. Many thanks for your support!

LONDON — It wasn't until Jude met Jenny that the 3-year-old autistic boy understood what happy people look like.
Jenny, a green trolley car with a human face, had a furrowed brow when her wheel buckled and she got stuck on a track. But after being rescued by friends, she smiled broadly - and that's when something clicked for little Jude Baines.
"It was revelatory," his mother, Caron Freeborn, told Associated Press Television News in Cambridge, England. Before watching the video, Jude didn't understand what emotions were and never noticed the expressions on people's faces, even those of his parents or younger brother.
Jenny's adventures are part of a DVD for autistic children released this month in the United States called "The Transporters."
The DVD teaches autistic children how to recognize emotions such as happiness, and sadness through the exploits of a train, a ferry and a cable car....

I thought this was well written and worth posting.
"Art can be an important part of education for special needs students. It provides them with a hands-on way to express themselves and experience the joy of completing projects that are fun to do. Often, special needs students have a harder time experiencing success with hands-on activities, due to motor, visual, and tactile impairments. With art projects, however, all students can succeed.
It's important that teachers have patience when helping special needs students with art projects. Reacting with impatience may cause the special needs child undue anxiety and make the task far less pleasurable. Teachers should make the point of the art activity the actual process rather than the finished result. Letting the child know that his/her artwork is special and unique throughout the process can help him/her become more confident...."

I just read about this really neat movement started by Cami Walker. I feel it is so important to give of ourselves. It benefits the world and also the giver. Cami writes: "Why? Because to see the world change, we have to do something to change the world. Plus, the best way to attract abundance into your life is to be in a perpetual state of giving and gratitude. Be an important part of the global giving movement that inspires more generosity on our planet. " Check out her web site: www.29gifts.org. Let me know what you think.

I had the extreme pleasure of attanding a lecture given by Arun Gandhi at Pellissippi State Community College on Tuesday. Arun is the grandson of Mahatma Gandi. He discussed methods of obtaining solutions through non-violence. It was very interesting to hear concrete exapmles of how to put non-violence into practice. Especially how one must carry the burden of change on one's self to serve as an example. I feel I was lead to attend this lecture and I trust you were lead to this site/posting. I will be posting videos of A. Gandhi over the next few weeks. Peace to you!

Great News! I will live forever!
"...There's evidence that their (creative) professions, more than any particular lifestyle choice, may have contributed to their longevity. "The very act of engaging one's mind in creative ways directly affects health," says Dr. Gene Cohen, director of the Center on Aging, Health & Humanities at George Washington University. In 2001, Cohen undertook a study of 150 adults ages 65 to 100 to examine the effects of various pursuits on their well-being. The control group was engaged in noncreative community activities and the other group participated in community-based art programs. After one year, Cohen found that the group engaged in creative activities, such as painting or singing in a choir, had started fewer new medications, experienced fewer falls and made fewer doctor's visits than the control group. "Anything that stimulates the brain, reduces stress, and promotes a more balanced emotional response will trigger positive changes in the body," he says..."
