Class: Creating Mandalas for Meditation


Mandalas are an ancient art form found in many cultures around the world. Also called “Energy Circles”, they are a creative and wonderful way to promote relaxation and meditation. The community is invited to start the New Year off right by joining local fiber artist, Bailey Earith at the Farragut Town Hall to learn how to create and use mandalas to decrease stress.

Enjoy the calm and beauty of this Native American and Tibetan art form as you create a decorative paper mandala. Students will learn to create their own unique mandala from decorative papers. This project is the perfect combination of meditation and art. No experience necessary.

When: Thursday, January 12 6:00-8:00pm

The Tennessee Artisan Market at The Renaissance Center invites all interior designers, interior design students, lighting professionals, artists and the general public to a free Interior Design Event and Lecture on Friday, October 7th, 6::30 pm. The event will start with a lecture and presentation on “Light Revealing Design” by Amy Laughead-Riese, LC, the President and principal lighting designer for 37 Volts Light Studio, LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio. Amy will discuss techniques designers can use to reveal their design, including how to use light to defy gravity, melt architecture, or influence behavior. She will also address how to successfully accomplish good lighting design by keeping in mind budgets, energy codes and alternative light sources. In addition, she will discuss “Lighting Focal Points”, lighting characteristics to be considered when lighting paintings and sculpture, of interest to artists and interior designers alike.

After Amy’s presentation in the large lecture hall, we will have a Meet & Greet reception in the Tennessee Artisan Market at around 7:30 pm. Several of the Tennessee Artisan Market artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work. In addition, there will be an opening reception for three new art exhibits at The Renaissance Center by artists who are also represented in the Tennessee Artisan Market: Encaustic painter and designer Judy Klich, Memphis artist Donna Blackard and Mixed-media artist Sarah Stob. Directions: The Renaissance Center is located just 35 minutes from downtown Nashville in Dickson, TN. Directions: Take I-40 West. 4 Exits past Bellevue, exit 172. Turn right onto Highway 46. Go about 2 ½ miles. The Renaissance Center will be on your right.

The Tennessee Artisan Market opened in December, 2010 and features art, crafts and handmade goods exclusively by Tennessee artisans. With over 120 participating artists, representing all areas of the state, the market is a showcase for the creative community and a great resource for those interested in purchasing art and fine crafts.

The Renaissance Center is a state-of-the-art facility for fine arts, performing arts, media production, technology and education. The center includes several art galleries, the Gaslight Dinner Theatre, the Renaissance Players Community Theatre, the Tennessee Artisan Market and the CyberSphere Digital Theater. Support for the arts programs are from the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Free Artisan Demo at Renaissance cntr

Journals are a wonderful way to organize your thoughts, pictures, and mementos. Journals are extra special when you make them yourself. Students will be introduced to a variety of journal making techniques. Students will create an envelope journal. This journal is perfect for scrap booking, vacation journaling, family reunions, and gift giving. All skill levels welcome.

Bailey Earith is a fiber artist who is committed to bringing peace and spiritual well being to the world through art. She enjoys re-purposing found objects into beautiful works of art. Her art can be found in private collections around the world.

Class Schedule: Intentional Art

I am happy to announce an opportunity for you to work like I work. I love to take an idea and expand on it through variations over a period of time. I find this process to be very fulfilling and highly creative, freeing and pleasurable. I want my students to experience this for themselves. Support your soul and enrich your spirit by expanding your vision over time. I am offering a unique series of art classes that are designed to enable you to maximize your creative experience by building on your skills from week to week. Add a new skill set each week as you grow in an upbeat, supportive environment. If you are unable to commit for all 4 weeks, please join us anyways, as each class can also stand alone for a more condensed art experience.

Where: All classes are held at Migun-TN (in Farragut by Fresh Market) on Wednesdays from 11-1.
